Privacy policy
Welcome to Daybook, made by Avion Labs. This policy explains how information is handled in the Android and iPhone apps. Daybook is built so your financial records stay on your device. We do not operate servers that store your transactions.
Information storage
On your device
- Categories, sources, and transactions are stored locally (Room on Android, SwiftData on iPhone).
- We do not collect, transmit, or store your ledger on our servers.
- We cannot read your personal or financial records.
Optional backup on Android
- You can back up to your personal Google Drive.
- Backups stay in a folder the app creates in your Drive. We cannot see the rest of your Drive.
- We never store your Google account password.
- Transfer is between your phone and Google’s Drive service.
Optional backup on iPhone
- You can back up to your personal iCloud Drive.
- Backups are JSON snapshots in the app’s private iCloud container.
- We cannot access other files in your iCloud Drive, and we never see your Apple Account credentials.
- Transfer is between your device and Apple’s iCloud service.
Analytics and diagnostics
Android
If you leave analytics on, Firebase Analytics may receive anonymous usage events such as app opens, whether a backup ran, error reports, and device type (OS version, model). Amounts, notes, names, and other ledger fields are not included. You can turn this off in the app’s privacy settings.
iPhone
The iPhone app does not include analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. It does not record usage events and does not send usage data off the device.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect names, emails, or account identifiers.
- We do not collect financial transaction details onto our servers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- The iPhone app does not use advertising identifiers or App Tracking Transparency.
- Daybook does not include advertising SDKs.
Permissions and capabilities
Android
- Storage on the device, for the local ledger.
- Internet, for optional Google Drive backup and, if enabled, anonymous analytics.
- Google Account, only when you turn on Drive backup.
- Notifications and exact alarms, only if you enable reminders.
iPhone
- On-device storage for categories, sources, and transactions.
- iCloud, only when you enable backup.
- Files you pick for CSV import or PDF/CSV export. The app does not use your photo library, camera, location, contacts, or microphone.
Third-party services
Google Drive (Android). Used only for optional backup. Access is limited to files this app creates in your Drive. Data moves between your device and your Google account.
Firebase Analytics (Android). Used for anonymous usage statistics if you have not opted out. No ledger contents are included. Analytics data is stored on Google’s servers under Google’s terms.
iCloud (iPhone). Used only for optional backup in your private container. Data moves between your device and your iCloud account, secured by Apple.
The iPhone app does not include analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. It does not record usage events and does not send usage data off the device.
Security
- Your ledger does not pass through Avion Labs servers.
- App data is stored locally using each platform’s standard storage.
- Backup data is sent to Drive or iCloud over HTTPS by those platforms.
Your controls
- Export to PDF or CSV at any time.
- Turn Drive or iCloud backup on or off.
- Turn off Android analytics in the app’s privacy settings.
- Delete transactions in Settings. Uninstalling the app deletes local data on that device.
- Remove the app’s Drive access or delete iCloud backups from that service.
Children
Daybook is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
